Created in 1989, the UUA’s Green Sanctuary program provides a path for congregational study, reflection, and action in response to environmental challenges. The main goals of the Green Sanctuary Program are to provide a structure for congregations to engage with environmental and climate issues, and to help connect UUs together working on the front lines of environmental and climate justice work
FPBUU’s Green Sanctuary Committee was established a to support our congregation in meeting the criteria for certification. We made significant changes to our physical facilities, established environmentally friendly policies, e.g., discontinuing use of disposables during coffee hour, and oversaw construction of a solar array in our upper parking lot. Although the committee was formally disbanded several years ago, we continue to adhere to Green Sanctuary principles and to look for opportunities to continue its programmatic focus in all areas of congregational life.

In 2017, FPBUU joined the Faith Communities Environmental Network (FCEN), an affiliate of the
Cape Cod Climate Change Collaborative, whose mission emphasizes advancing environmental protection and eco-justice on Cape Cod and the Islands. For more information about FCEN, go to https://capecodclimate.org/faith
